So if you haven’t heard it yet, there’s been a big hoo-ha over the sound of Linkin Park’s new song ‘Heavy’ which if you have heard it is nothing close to heavy. If you are a Linkin Park fan and haven’t heard the track then the best way to describe it is a minimal electro beat which features Chester Bennington’s vocals as well as guest vocalist Kiiara.

I’m not saying it’s a bad song, but it wasn’t what I expected from a band that gave us albums such as Hybrid Theory, Meteora, Minutes to Midnight and The Hunting Party. But fans are embracing the new sound, currently the band have had over 10 million views on Youtube with the like/dislike ratio definitely in the positive for the track.

We should have expected something different after Chester tweeted fans last year saying that with the new album ‘One more Light’ to expect the unexpected. Some fans, myself included thought that they may go even heavier, but no it was in the complete opposite direction.

But here’s a surprise, there is a fan of the new material and it comes from a guy who loves to headbang so much that last year it was revealed that he had actually fractured his neck from doing it, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor. Corey and Chester both share the stage with the band Kings of Chaos and whilst doing some shows Chester played the new material for Linkin Park to Taylor who did state that he doesn’t like pop songs, but was a fan of the new material going on to tell Chester that when you write a good song it doesn’t matter what the style is as long as the substance of the song is good.

So maybe we should take a page out of the book of Corey Taylor and accept the new Linkin Park album One More Light which is due out on the 19th of May, as a bunch of tunes of good substance. Or maybe Corey is becoming a bit soft after years of screaming…hope not!!
