The feature film that firestarted a young Drew Barrymore’s career is getting a remake!

The 1980 horror film Firestarter, which is about a girl with pyrokinetic powers and the ability to predict the future, will now light up the big screen once again under the direction of Akiva Goldsman.

Goldsman has written scripts for I Am Legend, Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons but his directing credits aren’t as wide. However he has producer credits attached to several films ranging from Paranormal Activity 2, 3 and 4 to the upcoming Transformers films.

Scott Teems is writing the script and Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the original, will also work on the remake.

Goldsman is no stranger to adapting Stephen King’s works as he co-wrote the script for the upcoming Dark Tower, which will release in Australia August 17th
