Back in June Microsoft surprised us all by announcing the highly demanded remaster of everyone’s favourite 90s strategy game Age of Empires, and now they’ve topped even that!

Microsoft Studios revealed today that Age of Empires 4 is officially in development for Windows 10 PC. It will be developed by real-time strategy veterans Relic Entertainment who brought us Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Company of Heroes and Homeworld. The original developer Ensemble Studios who brought us Age of Empires, II and III, even the Age of Mythology spin-off, disbanded in 2009.

In addition, Microsoft revealed that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, which will boast 4k graphics, a remastered soundtrack and improved gameplay, will release on October 19th. This will be followed by remasters of Age of Empires II and III later down the track.

Currently there’s no release date for Age of Empires 4. Are you excited about the next instalment? I’m drowning in nostalgia right now.

BONUS: Remember seeing this back in 2005?

I was SO hyped about IV and V advancing the strategy games through more modern eras, but sadly these games never got made. Right now all we have to go off is this gameplay-lacking trailer.
