Halo 3 celebrates 10 years with old-school maps in Halo 5.

Yo, let’s go Slayer on Guardian, Plasma Grenades only and NO GRAVITY HAMMER! Sounds like gibberish to some, but to me and my friends this was an epic set-up for a Friday afternoon of nothing but snacks and Halo 3. Hard to believe it’s been ten years since that game came out, hey? Way to make us feel old. Well Microsoft are doing something really cool to celebrate Halo 3’s double-digit anniversary!

Halo launched on September 25th 2007 so as of today you’ll be able to live out your nostalgia days in the latest installation Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One with a Halo 3 Classic Throwback playlist which features some of the best remade maps from the 2007 classic.

They include:
Guardian
Boundless (Snowbound)
The Pit
Citadel
Isolation
High Ground
Ghost Town

Gamespot reports that the game is meant to replicate the original experience in as many ways possible. Spartan Abilities introduced in the later instalments have – of course – been disabled for that raw Halo 3 experience. Furthermore jump height has been increased, player speed decreased, the motion tracker range has been increased to 25 and the shield/health recharge rates are at a similar speed to the original.

Additionally, to celebrate the release, Developer 343’s boss Bonnie Ross left a heartfelt message on their blog about the game’s impact on their life:

“The launch of Halo 3 was a bittersweet moment for me on so many levels. I loved Halo 3, especially taking a road trip down Tsavo Highway, which is one of my all-time favorite Halo missions. That scenic drive, with so many very satisfying road kill opportunities, is something I’ll always remember. But it was also a time when Bungie and people we had worked closely with for eight years were leaving to pursue their next dream. In many ways, I think of Halo 3 as Bungie’s love letter to the fans and that letter still resonates with me personally to this day.”

I know what my plans are for tonight. Hope to see you online too!
