Kicking off the news, could it be true? Warped Tour could be returning to Australia? Well that’s what music fans are hoping for after founder of Warped Tour Kevin Lyman announced that the tour was expanding beyond it’s current borders in North America to possibly 14 other countries in the future. Two of those countries are Mexico and Japan, so at least they’re coming in the direction of Australia.

There is some trepidation that Warped Tour may not return after failing twice before; in the late 90s and in 2013 when tour promoter AJ Maddah took a swing at promoting the festival. There are a few upsides to this failure from 2013, since then many Australian punk and metal bands have been getting a higher rotation on radio stations, promoter AJ Maddah has stated he would give his blessing to anyone who brings back Warped Tour to Australia although ‘they would need deep pockets’ and record label UNFD has shown there is demand for punk and metal with the success of their label and Unify Gathering Festival.

So even though there hasn’t been an announcement there are positive signs for the tour to return. Oh and during the announcement from Kevin Lyman about Warped Tour’s future he also dropped the 2017 lineup for the states which will feature: Bowling For Soup, CKY, American Authors, Beartooth, Goldfinger, Memphis May Fire, Neck Deep, Save Ferris, Hatebreed, Gwar, Silverstein, Anti-Flag, Sick of it All, Strung Out, The Ataris and Aussies Hands Like Houses and Trophy Eyes amongst many others. So it’s a case of watch this space for Warped Tour returning to Oz.
