It’s a pirate’s life for Disney. This week it was announced hackers are holding a copy of their upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales movie at ransom.
Before we go any further let it sink in that pirates have stolen a film about pirates. Yep, gotta love irony.
Deadline and Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed they’re the new target of the hack which is similar to when episodes of Orange is the New Black season 5 were leaked online after a ransom demand.
The hackers have threatened to release chunks of the film online if a certain amount isn’t paid by the studio in Bitcoin. However, Disney aren’t calling their bluff. Instead they’re working with the FBI to figure out their next step.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is still set to release in cinemas next week.
