It’s the end of an era for Sony’s PS3 as its home country Japan have shut down shipments.

This was announced in a notice posted on the Japanese PlayStation website in relation to the discontinuation of the 500 GB PS3 model, which was the only remaining system in the country.

Japan is not alone in this change, New Zealand have had the product discontinued since September 2015. Currently PS3 shipments are still alive and well here in Australia, as well as the US and other major gaming markets.

The PS3 launched in Japan in November 2006, and came to our shores four months later in March 2007.
